Trainee Upholsterer/Sewing Machinist, Southampton

We have a fantastic opportunity in our workshop for a trainee upholsterer/ machinist who may be looking to further their skills with on-site modern upholstery training to become a valued member of a successful local business.

The job is based in Southampton, Hampshire, SO14 5QF and will be working with luxury yacht exteriors and interiors.

The candidate will need to be:-

  • Competent in the use of an industrial sewing machine, including experienced in the use of a variety of sewing techniques.
  • Experienced working with and, being able to follow patterns and cutting is preferable, but training will be given to the right candidate, if needed.

Further to this we would look to improve your skills with:-

  • Upholstering techniques, including stapling and working with foams and other core materials.
  • Travelling to the yachts to template and fit the finished upholstery in place.

Finally the ideal candidate will be:-

  • Able to listen and follow instructions accurately.
  • An effective member of a team.
  • Able to meet production targets and deadlines.
  • Able to work accurately under pressure.
  • Responsible for the quality of your work.

Able to keep your machine and work area clean and work to in an orderly fashion.

Training will be given both on machines and products to ensure you are properly skilled.   You must have a good level of literacy and numeracy.   Core hours are Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm with overtime, when required.

Senior Upholsterer – Modern

  • £35k basic gross annual salary + performance related bonuses.

Dagmar Design is seeking a dynamic, full-time senior upholsterer to join our expanding team, working from our gallery and studios in North London (N4).   We are looking for a driven, proactive individual with a keen interest in 20th century design, who is excited to join a small yet fast-growing company.   Proven experience in a comparable role is required.

The successful applicant will be responsible for working on and overseeing all upholstery output whilst maintaining our exceptionally high standards at all times.   They will work closely alongside the Managing Director to ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of high-end new and vintage products to a global customer-base.   The initial period will involve the design and set up of a new dedicated upholstery workshop and simultaneously hiring a new team of senior and junior upholsterers (two-three).

  • On-going core responsibilities will include:
  • Reupholstery of our extensive vintage range of armchairs, sofas and dining chairs.
  • Upholstery from frame of our new range of Dagmar Custom armchairs and sofas.
  • Contributing to the design and prototype development of new Dagmar Custom products.
  • Line-managing upholstery team of two-three staff.
  • Buying and managing material stock levels.

Upholsterer – Battersea

We are recruiting a furniture Upholsterer for a successful family run furniture business based in Battersea, London.   Working Monday to Saturday, you will be responsible for upholstering sofa frames and other soft furnishing products including beds and armchairs.   The ideal candidate will have relevant experience in an upholstery role and be experienced using a tacking gun and other assembly tools.   The role will include an element of manual handling.

Full time upholsterer – Barnes, London SW13

We are a family run business which has been established since 1969.    We are looking for a full qualified upholsterer with proven experience to be able to do traditional and modern work.  The ability to cut and sew would be an advantage, but not essential, as training would be given.   The candidate needs to be able to work on their own initiative and to work as part of a team.

2x Upholsterers required – Chessington

We are looking for 2 Upholsterers, ideally we need 1 upholsterer who is experienced, but this isn’t essential. The individuals would need to be enthusiastic and have an eye for detail. They should have basic sewing or upholstery experience. Need to be able to work in a team environment, and have a positive, pro-active character. Should be keen to learn new skills, and take advise from those working around them, if needed.

Salary would be between £21,000 and £38,000 depending on experience.

Paid overtime is available
