Production Manager – Wandsworth, South London

Downers Design is a bespoke soft furnishings company creating couture curtains and blinds for leading Interior Designers & Architects.  Established for over 25 years we are going through a significant growth and development phase. The majority of our work comes through referrals, and a returning high profile client base who value our customer service, attention to detail and quality of product, which is meticulously handcrafted in our workshop located opposite Wandsworth Town train station.

We are expanding our Production team and looking to recruit an additional Production Manager. This is a newly created opportunity for an experienced, highly organised, efficient, and IT literate individual to jointly manage, motivate the production team, and run our manufacturing operation. Working in tandem with the existing Production Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team of 8 Production Technicians and a team of subcontractors. This includes; manpower and production planning in line with production requirements; implementing systems and process’s to check and monitor quality control; motivating and managing the team of production technicians, carrying out performance assessment, skills audit, putting together training and development plans; producing manufacturing worksheets/plan of works for curtains, blinds and cushions to be manufactured and delivered on time; ordering stock; and general, management related administration. The role will include working closely in conjunction with the project management team to interpret client requirements as well as the installations team to ensure that the manufactured items are finalised ready for project installation to the standard required on site.

This role requires proven managerial skills and a high level of multiple communication across the Downers team and other stakeholders with the ability to coordinate various departments simultaneously, reacting accordingly to late changes in client requests and fittings schedules.

The successful candidate will have previously working in a clothing or soft furnishings manufacturing environment. They will be a good multi tasker, excellent communicator, have high attention to detail and remain calm under pressure. This role is deadline driven in order to ensure the job is delivered on time and to the required level of quality and customer service.

Candidates will ideally have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a production environment and be fluent in English communication.

Candidates could also be required to be available to work on some late shifts (3pm – 10pm) in line with business requirements.

Your job will involve the following: • Factory work, upholstering complete items or particular parts like chair or sofa arms • Craft work on individual pieces of new furniture or re-upholstery of old or antique furniture Your work may be physically demanding, involving lifting and carrying furniture.
