We are a world-wide renowned interiors workshop devoted to delivering excellence in craftsmanship on both our residential and commercial projects. We require a first class experienced and energetic upholsterer to join our growing team.

The winning candidate will be responsible for the following:

-You will closely with the team upholstering bespoke furniture such as chairs, benches, sofas, head boards, banquettes and fitted goods.
• Be confident in doing fixed upholstery, traditional, modern upholstery, cushions and loose covers
• Estimating fabric quantities, advising on fabrics, preparing patterns and templates cutting out fabric and making cushions may be required
• Working to deadlines whilst maintaining high quality
• Fixing webbing and springs
• Adding trimmings like piping, fringing and buttons
• Keeping your working area, and department, clean and tidy and organised in line with H&S requirements

We are looking for these skills:
• Proven upholstery experience over a number of years
• Proactive and positive attitude
• Able to problem solve and being solutions oriented
• Proactive and self-motivated (working independently is key)
• Be able to communicate at all levels from internal staff to Directors and Clients
• Be able to work on large projects as well as small intricate pieces. Both independently and within a team.
• You must have a keen eye for detail and produce an outstanding finish.
• Sewing skills preferable.
• Someone who is happy to fit on site.
• Someone who can work under pressure.
• The ability to read/understand CAD and technical drawings.
• Has an understanding of wooden frames.
• Good knowledge of soft covers and leathers
• Safety awareness

We are looking for an individual with experience of running a workshop, cutting and preparing fabrics as well as a solid background in both traditional and modern upholstery. Upholsterer/teacher – 2 positions available – Shoreditch, London

Amazing opportunity to join the growing team at Shoreditch Design Rooms, upholstery school and workshop in East London.

We provide AMUSF-accredited courses from beginners to advanced. It’s very much a hands-on teaching experience and we have small class sizes (max. 8 students). We also run a workshop where we provide high-end upholstery services for the domestic and commercial market. This combination of school and workshop is very important to us.

We’re looking for an experienced upholsterer, an upholstery teacher or someone that would be interested in combining both roles. You will be an experienced upholsterer who likes working with people and is looking for your next challenge. Teaching experience, although preferred, is not essential as training and assistance will be given. You will be proactive, be able to manage schedules and work to tight deadlines and have a keen eye for detail.

Key skills required:

  • 5+ years upholstery experience
  • Traditional upholstery techniques including knowledge and experience with iron backs, independent sprung edges and deep buttoning
  • Modern techniques including concave frames
  • Cutting and pattern matching in fabric and leather
  • Fabric machinist skills
  • Experience in quoting

£25k – £30k. Part time work considered.
